Forgive me if this is answered elsewhere. Do you use some other figurine as a base? What's your medium. Sculpey? Do you need a wire armature for a sculpture this size or do you just get the clay carving tools and start working?

The ponies are cast with resin from a mold I made of an original sculpture. The original was made with extra firm chavant oil clay so required no armature aside from some extra wire supports in the legs and neck. Thanks for your comment!

Ughh, how exactly did you buy your clay? I searched "chavant oil clay" and chavant.com reports that minimum orders have to be 40-60 pounds worth. Can smaller amounts not be bought?
